  1. Bill,
I’m surprised that you haven’t referred to the Scottish curriculum’s definitions of literacy and text, and to the way that this has been reflected in the Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy.

    • Hi Gordon,
As you know, I spend half my life quoting the definitions of ‘literacy’ and ‘text’ in the Scottish curriculum, but sometimes you have to acknowledge that one or two other countries have worked it out as well as us! I’m also very impressed by the work done by SQA on the SSLN and immensely proud of my small contribution to it, something I’ve blogged about in the past. The imminent arrival of the first new literacy survey in Scotland – a veritable landmark – may mean a return to this topic soon.
